February 2024 Newsletter

President's Report:

On Monday 12th February we travelled to Waverley Golf Club to contest the Royce Hollingworth Trophy. The course was under a lot of maintenance due to drainage work and many holes were affected and due to the anticipated hot weather the greens had been heavily watered making putting very difficult.

Forty two players played with several late withdrawls causing the draw to be hastily rewritten. We didnt have any guests and members enjoyed a great lunch of fish and chips in the clubhouse.

We staged the 75th Annual Meeting after our game. After 9 years as secretary Jeff Taylor has stepped down due to health reasons and Beverley Jenkin will take on the job bringing a wealth of experience with her. I like to thank Jeff for his service to the club wish him good health. All other positions were refilled with current office bearers. Former president Roger Selwood successfully moved an increase of fees comparing them to the cost of coffee and donuts.

Another highlight was the elevation of webmaster Laurie Commerford to life membeship for his service to the club in getting the website up and running.

Happy golfing and see you at Waterford Valley.

Your Smiling President Harold Hayes.

Reliable Memories

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.

The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, "Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very highly."

The other man said, "What is the name of the restaurant?"

The first man thought and thought and finally said, "What’s the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know, the one that's red and has thorns."

"Do you mean a rose?"

"Yes, that's the one," replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled:

"Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"
