The members were welcomed to Waverley/Churchill Golf Club to compete in the tournament for the Royce Hollingworth trophy. With this being our first opportunity to play at the course, the members graciously thanked the hosts for their hospitality.
Under the watchful eye of our starters Peter Ross, Yvonne Daniel and Ian Richards they successfully had the field of 55 at their tees at the scheduled time - well done.
The VVGA 4BBB tournament at Hamilton Golf Club on the 20/21 March is available to our members to attend. Laurie Comerford is looking for a partner for this tournament, if interested please contact Laurie.
Members please remember to support our valued sponsors, House of Golf Moorabbin and Jimmy Jams.
Access to our booking sheet for members closes on the Thursday prior to the event. There are reasons for this:
The members were reminded to advise of non attendance to a tournament by NOON on the Thursday prior to the tournament to assist with the tee draw and advising the host clubs of dining numbers.
This being my last newsletter as I am stepping down as President, I wish to thank the Committee and members for their support during my time.
MEMBERS, I feel that it is unfortunate that no one has stepped forward as our Marketing person for 2023. Daryl has provided 11 years of service in this role and any member nominating for this position will receive plenty of support from the committee.
President Roger opened the AGM and announced his retirement from the Presidency on health grounds, but like the character he is advised he would continue to assist the Club and Committee in all the ways he can.
Roger handed over the chair to Life Member David Vine for the election of the 2023 President. David spoke of Roger's contribution to the Club and thanked him on behalf of the members and this was followed by a spontaneous round of applause for Roger.
The Committee for 2023 was elected at the AGM as follows:

A Texan walks into a pub in Galway, Ireland, and raises his voice to the crowd of drinkers. He shouts, "I hear you Irish are a bunch of real hard-drinking fools. I'll give 500 American dollars to anybody in here who can drink 10 pints of Guinness - back to back.".
The room is quiet and no one takes on the Texan's offer.
Paddy Murphy gets up and leaves the bar. Thirty minutes later, he shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder.
"Is your bet still good?" asks Paddy."
The Texan answers, "Of course - Yes."
and he orders the barman to line up 10 pints of Guinness. Quickly, Paddy downs all them back to back.
The other pub patrons cheer and the Texan slumps down in amazement, but honours his offer gives Paddy $US500.
Recovering his composure he asks Paddy, "If ya don't mind me askin', where did you go for that 30 minutes you were gone?"
Paddy replies, "Oh ... I had to go to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first!"."
