March 2022 Newsletter

Presidents Report:

Apologies:

There were 23 apologies today.

Starters today:

Our starters John Molloy, Johan Tetteroo with Peter Ross got the field away on the two tee format prepared by Captain Jeff.

Number of Players / Guests:

Forty six members and guest Peter Jackson were welcomed to the tournament at Waterford Valley on a perfect day for golf, playing for the Thord Lorich trophy. The Waterford Valley Club were thanked by the members for hosting our Vets Club with the course in great condition.  The members were reminded that our $40, 2022 membership subscription is now due.  The $40 can be paid at the next tournament at Churchill Park on the 4th of April or online with Treasurer Peter Ross before the end of April.

CoM Business:

The Committee met after the lunch.  Assistant Secretary Beverley had her first meeting thrown straight into the full Secretarial role for the day with her note pad in place for the minutes.

The points of interest were:

  • Beverley was welcomed to the Committee in her new role.
  • Captain Jeff reviewed the catering and discussions with the Club for our last event.
  • Some progress has been made in seeking other members to assist in Committee tasks.

Brag time:

A notable round by Beverly Jenkins in Brag time, where she had a Par round of +9, which has reduced her handicap.

Next event:

Please attend the next tournament at Churchill Park for the President and Captain trophy in a 4BBB on the 4th of April.  This is our only 4BBB for the year, so make sure you play.

The pairs in the event will be allocated by the Captain using a guided random system such that each pair will have one lower handicapped and one higher handicapped player and cart users will be paired.

Important - Cart booking:

The pairs allocation has the effect that bookings for cart pairs will be ignored and if you plan to use a cart, please book yourself as a cart user, NOT as one of a pair.  The Club will organise booking of the carts at Churchill Park for this event.

VVGA 4BBB tournament:

Several members will be participating in the VVGA 4BBB tournament at Belvoir Park later this month, good luck and enjoy the challenge against Statewide Vets Clubs.

Committee assistants:

The CoM are still looking for volunteers to assist in our Marketing area and the web site.  We were delighted when Beverly Jenkins agreed to assist in the Secretary roll - thanks for assisting the club in this roll with Jeff Taylor.

Running the web site:

As has been indicated over several newsletters, running of the web site involves a wide range of tasks.  No-one in the Club expects that a single person will ever be able to take on all these tasks again after Laurie stops - or winds down.  Instead, we see that several members get involved to handle single aspects of running the web site.  The role of webmaster must evolve into a managerial role with a team carrying out the individual tasks, such that non one person needs allocate any significant part of their lives to the role.
